Please tell me how I’m supposed to feel, Stop my mind. Call a halt to all flickering bulbs, Those flickering bulbs Please show my eyes what they no longer see, Don’t leave me not knowing when the quiet comes, Then the quiet comes. I’m not trying to escape, Just trying to find my own way. Please tell me what you think I need to know, Don’t let go. For so long we were those flickering bulbs, Those flickering bulbs. I’m not trying to escape, Just trying to find my own way.

The Five Rise stole my breath, But while the engines blown there will be no rest, I’ll tow her along these inland navigations. Down to Leigh and on to Lymm, Frost cracked and rope burnt skin is asking, ‘Will we ever reach our destination?’ We will move amongst these hills, And along the valley floor. And I will open all the locks for you. As light begins to fail me, In tunnels and nights, a plenty, She’ll hold the lantern to guide me through. Oh rise, I’ll rise when the water rise, Rise when the water’s rise. Rise when the water’s rise. And I’ll go down with you. At Elsmere we gained strength, We took on fuel and sustenance. And so towards Birmingham’s Union waters. But at Etoria, I put my hand in hers As we clung to all those times we’d shared. You don’t know home, until you get there. But these ways are all I know, Along my veins they flow, And I will rove every inch of this land, With our harvest yield and load. The journey’s hard, the journey’s slow, But I’m the navigation man And I’ll rise, I’ll rise when the water rise, Rise when the water’s rise. Rise when the water’s rise. And I’ll go down with you

To the port of Montreal, I crawl, I’m laden, I’m loaded. The winter whilst cruel, has filled my traps, And to find my way back. But these are unfinished maps, So my return was slowed. With knees buckling and shoulders bowed, I’ll collect what I’m owed. I will deliver, to collect what I’m owed. Every day is a fight, Every muscle and all my might, But if my heart beats, I’m alive. Life is its own device, All I ask is a fair price. So I’ll traipse with these tracks and I’ll trade, But won’t give what I’ve earned away Though I can ask you to wait, I know that you won’t stay. But I will deliver and find you someday, Yes, I’ll find you someway. Oh my love, these are the trading lines, Oh my love, this isn’t work, it’s life, Oh my love, these trading lines, And oh my love, oh my love, If this doesn’t work, it’s life. I will deliver, for my lover.

about

A self-financed and self-recorded debut EP. Recorded in a church, the music reverberates with emotion as it weaves narratives of loss, hope, love and courage. The songs blend experiences and stories of the individual and simultaneously, resonate more broadly. Historic tales of hardship directly connected to the present, as heard on ‘Trading lines’ and 'Navigation Song'; or the tension of information overload and there being no answers to be found when lost and alone, as heard on ‘The lost art of wondering’.
